West Loop

West Loop is a neighborhood rich with character. Once known as a warehouse and meatpacking district, it has boomed into prominence since the 1990s as one of the newest, most sought-after residential destinations around the heart of Chicago’s downtown.

Today, West Loop turns heads with its industrial aesthetic, a remarkable restaurant and nightlife scene, and convenient accessibility.

As its name suggests, this neighborhood lies just west of the Chicago Loop. It is bounded from north to south by Grand Avenue and I-290, and from west to east by Ashland Avenue and the Chicago River. The Kennedy Expressway cuts across the eastern section of the locale, providing quick highway access via portions of the Interstate 90, I-94, and I-190.

Despite its humble industrial roots, this neighborhood has developed a high-profile and sophisticated vibe that makes the Chicago Loop’s urban professionals and executives feel right at home.

West Loop, Chicago real estate

Luxury real estate in Chicago’s West Loop can be found in a variety of contemporary, mid-rise condominium complexes and lofts of all types. Common among these options are three to four-bedroom open floor plans stretching between 2,000 and 3,000 square feet.

The West Loop is also a delightful area to shop for industrial era-themed homes for sale in Chicago. Buyers will find plenty of trendy and upscale two- to three-bedroom lofts built into restored and repurposed warehouse buildings.

Development is still aggressively ongoing around the area, as several buildings have yet to be converted into residential properties. This means opportunities still abound for buyers looking for a suitable home in close proximity to the Chicago Loop.
